CEDAR CITY – One of two suspects in a car burglary at Cedar City Wal-Mart on May 8 has been identified and charged thanks to the help of community tipsters and social media.
An Iron County Sheriff’s Office press release was issued to the public through the Sheriff’s Office website and their Facebook page Tuesday. By Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office updated its Facebook page that both suspects were identified.
“ICSO would like to thank everyone that shared this information which helped identify these suspects,” the update reported.
The two women were accused of stealing credit cards and a purse from a parked car in the Cedar City Wal-Mart parking lot and then racking up charges at four shopping locations throughout town, including Wal-Mart.
The community response was almost immediate, Iron County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Del Schlosser said, the blessing of social media.
Samantha Jane Luttrull, 20, of N. Wagon Wheel Dr. in Enoch, was arrested at 8:51 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Iron County Bookings, less than three hours after the press release was posted to Facebook.
Luttrull was charged with a class A misdemeanor, burglary of a vehicle; and four class B misdemeanors: three counts of credit card fraud and one of theft. As of Thursday evening, Schlosser said, Luttrull had been released from the Iron County Jail on a bond for $4,670 bail.
The second suspect has not been charged yet, Schlosser said. The Iron County Sheriff’s office is aware of her identity but is not yet releasing it to the public.
