ST. GEORGE – Traffic on the north end of Bluff Street had to work its way around a four-vehicle accident Monday afternoon after one car allegedly following too close caused a chain reaction of fender-to-fender impacts.
Just before 1 p.m., St. George Police units were dispatched to the area of 325 North Bluff where three of the four vehicles involved in the accident were rendered inoperable. St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the scene.
The vehicles were primarily in the center-southbound lane, requiring police to divert traffic around the accident as responders tended to the scene.
The vehicle that triggered the accident was a Honda Accord driven by a 22-year-old male, St. George Sgt. Spencer Holmes said. The driver was given a citation for following too close.
The Honda Accord ended up hitting the rear of a green Hyundai passenger car, pushing it into the back of a blue Hyundai passenger car that was pushed into the back of a Ford pickup truck. The three cars had to be towed away from the scene while the Ford pickup remained operational.
Individuals involved in the accidents were treated at the scene by responders and declined transportation to the hospital via ambulance.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
