ST. GEORGE — Not paying attention may have been the cause of a pizza delivery driver rear-ending a car on Foremaster Drive Thursday, resulting in one man taken to the hospital and severe damage to both cars.
At about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, a man and woman in a dark blue Subaru Forester were stopped westward at the intersection of Foremaster Drive and River Road when a Roy’s Pizza delivery driver in a silver Dodge Caravan rear-ended them.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan apparently was not paying attention, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said, and ran into the back of the Subaru.
The man who was a passenger in the Subaru was injured, Despain said, and taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. The woman driving the Subaru was apparently uninjured, and able to drive the car off the street.
The young man driving the Dodge Caravan also appeared to be uninjured, Despain said. He was issued a citation for following too closely.
All involved were wearing seat belts, Despain said.
The Dodge Caravan had extensive damage to the front end and had to be towed from the scene.
Traffic through the intersection was slowed for about 30 minutes while the wreck was cleared and was stopped several times by officers to allow a tow truck to pick up the Dodge Caravan.
