LAVERKIN – A teenage driver was involved in a collision in downtown LaVerkin Thursday in the midst of heavy construction traffic.
The accident occurred at 29 N. State Street at about 3:15 p.m.
An orange Plymouth Neon driven by a 16-year-old girl rear-ended a silver Volkswagen Jetta, inflicting some damage to the rear bumper of the Jetta. No passengers were hurt in the accident, including an infant riding in the back seat of the Jetta.
The front of the Neon took the brunt of the damage.
Jake Bulkley, of the LaVerkin Police Department, said the accident happened because of traffic caused by road construction on State Street. Nevertheless, the 16-year-old driving the Neon was cited for following too closely.
Medical responders at the scene checked everyone involved in the crash, Bulkley said, but no one was ultimately taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Bulkley said it appeared that everyone, especially the infant, was buckled in at the time of the collision.
He advised drivers to be cautious in construction zones.
“Give plenty of distance between you (and) the vehicle ahead of you, and just slow down,” Bulkley said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
