Thompson, Mildred obit(January 30, 1914 – May 4, 2015)

Mildred Ellen Sanders Thompson passed away May 4, 2015, in St George, Utah, at the age of 101. She was born January 30, 1914, in Lima, Montana, to Joseph Lehi Sanders and Nancy Ellen (Nellie) Thompson Sanders. She married Erwin “Ub” Lamont Thompson on June 5, 1937, in Rexburg, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple.

Mildred spent her childhood in Lima, Montana, and Hamer, Idaho. After completing high school, she attended Ricks College majoring in Secretarial Skills. After school her first job was in Rexburg at Joy Drug Store. Next came Utah Power and Light Co. where she met and married Erwin. After staying home for several years with her two children, she began working at the Ellis Shop, a children’s clothing store. She then took a position at the County Agents office before moving to the Idaho Department of Employment from which she retired in 1976. Mildred was a longtime member of the Soroptomist Club in Rexburg and a volunteer at the hospital in St George for several years. In her spare time Mildred loved to quilt, crochet afghans and do cross stich and needle point pictures.

After Ub passed away on June 8, 1980, she found herself seeking a warmer climate and in 1986 moved to St George, Utah, where she was a resident until her passing.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all of her siblings and a grandson. Surviving are son, Erwin (Charlotte) Thompson of Granada Hills, California, and Linda (Dave) Caldwell of St George, Utah, nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services

  • Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 12 at noon at the Rexburg Cemetery, Rexburg, Idaho.
  • A viewing will be held Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg.
