ST. GEORGE – A moment’s inattention led to a two-vehicle collision involving a grey Saturn sedan and a multi-passenger van on south Main Street in St. George Monday morning.
The crash happened a little after 11 a.m., as the Saturn sedan was traveling east on 500 South and the van was traveling south on Main Street.
The 18-year-old driver of the Saturn sedan ran the stop sign at Main Street, causing the collision with the van, St. George Police Sgt. Craig Harding said.
“He glanced over at his passenger as he was eastbound on 500 South, came to Main Street, did not see the stop sign … ran the stop sign and collided with the front end of a van,” Harding said. “Actually, he went in front of the van, and the van hit his rear end,” Harding said.
The driver of the Saturn sedan was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, Sgt. Sam Despain said.
St. George Police officers and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene, however, no one was transported to the hospital, Despain said.
The Saturn sedan sustained major damage to the driver’s side rear, including a broken wheel, a smashed back fender and possibly a broken axle, Harding said. The sedan was towed from the scene, while the van was able to drive away.
