ST. GEORGE — A suspected DUI accident on Red Cliffs Drive in St. George in front of Interstate Steel and Supply resulted in one man being sent to the hospital Thursday evening.
At about 7:21 p.m., a passenger car and a minivan collided in front of 2736 E. Red Cliffs Drive.
Mike Graf was just coming out of a business and witnessed the accident.
“The minivan was in the turning lane, waiting to make the turn here, and then this car just coming down was in the inside lane. He drifted over, and she (the minivan driver) tried to get his attention, honking her horn, waving her hands, but he went head-on right into her,” Graf said.
St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett reiterated what Graf had seen. He said the van was headed south in the turning lane when the white passenger car crashed into it.
“We had reports that it was driving a bit erratically on the road,” Tripplett said. “We don’t know why — for some reason it veered into the center turn lane and collided head-on with the van.”
The driver of the passenger car was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center. Triplett said he did not know the extent of the man’s injuries.
The passengers in the van, a family including young children, were fine, he said. All involved in the accident were wearing their seat belts.
Air bags deployed in the passenger car when the collision occurred.
Triplett said alcohol use by the driver of the passenger car was suspected.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
