ST. GEORGE — A new “Kisses for Kycie” event, complete with a Pasta Factory dinner, snow cones, live and silent auction, raffle and live entertainment will be a night to remember Monday, from 5-8 p.m. at Staheli Family Farm, 3400 S. Washington Fields Road in Washington.
The event has been organized in an effort to support the family of Kycie Terry and spread awareness about Type 1 diabetes.
On Jan. 30, 5-year-old Kycie Terry was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, after exhibiting flu-like symptoms over a few days and then having tests results show her blood sugar level at 1,148 (milligrams per deciliter, or mg/dL), a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis.
Kycie’s parents had no prior idea that Kycie had Type 1 diabetes. On their way to Primary Children’s, Kycie had a seizure and another one when they got to the hospital. After reviewing the MRI, doctors said that she had extensive damage to the brain and told her parents to prepare for the worst.

Remarkably, Kycie did survive. She is still at Primary Children’s Hospital, fundraiser organizers said in a press release, and she is undergoing therapy and recovering little by little every day.
All proceeds will go to the Terry Family to help fund the cost of Kycie’s rehabilitation at the “Now I Can” facility in Provo, the release said.
Fundraiser organizers invite the community to join them Monday for the benefit of Kycie’s ongoing rehabilitation that she may regain crucial abilities and reach her full potential.
Ed. note: When making charitable contributions it is advisable to consult with professionals for tax advice and investment risks.
