Corporate sports challenge: ‘Play it Forward’ for The Learning Center; registration deadline

ST. GEORGE — Businesses and individuals interested in networking and some lighthearted competition are gathering at the Washington City Community Center Friday at 8 a.m. to participate in the corporate sports challenge for the benefit of The Learning Center for Families.

The Learning Center serves families with infants and toddlers who are vulnerable due to poor health, poverty, developmental delay or a developmental condition such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or autism.

“We’re so grateful for the support we’ve received from local businesses and families in our community,” TLC Development Officer Janie Belliston said. “Everywhere I turn, I meet someone who either has a child or grandchild or neighbor who has been helped by TLC over the years. Many of them even get emotional talking about their experience with TLC, which just reminds me of the positive impact we’re having on these families.”

Individuals or teams of co-workers, families or friends can register online through Wednesday to participate in the sports challenge fundraiser. Ticket prices are $50 per person or $300 per team of seven and are tax deductible.

Participants older than 18 of all fitness and skill levels will compete on one of several teams in fun, sports-oriented activities such as dodge ball, water roller balls, rock climbing wall, volleyball, tug of war and a basketball hoops challenge. Each team is required to have at least one male and one female.

“We’re hoping that fundraisers like the Corporate Sports Challenge will help us increase awareness about our mission,” Belliston said, “and raise the extra funding we need to serve more families on our waiting list.”

Breakfast, lunch and T-shirt are included in the event, as well as prizes (and bragging rights) for the winning team.
