LAVERKIN – Single-lane travel is anticipated for a two-mile segment of state Route 9 as the Utah Department of Transportation begins a pavement reconstruction and rehabilitation project this week. The roadwork is slated to wrap up by August.
Taking place between 800 North in Hurricane on the south side of the Arch Bridge up to 500 North on the north side in LaVerkin, it is anticipated that one lane of traffic in both directions will be closed to motorists during the duration of the project.
“People should be prepared for it to narrow down a bit,” said Kevin Kitchen, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Transportation.
People will still be able to pass through the area, though are advised to expect possible delays as two lanes of traffic merge into one through the construction area.
The project will result in parts of the roadway being ripped up and repaved as the work progresses. Minor surface work will also be done on the Arch Bridge over the Virgin River.
Various improvement to segments of the project will include improved drainage, curb and gutter placement, and upgrades to pedestrian access ramps.
The cost of the project is estimated at $3.4 million.
