The first accident was reported at about 2:45 p.m. by residents of the Temple Terrace Townhomes, located at the corner of 300 South and 200 East in St. George.

St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said a white Dodge Ram pickup was headed eastbound on 300 South and didn’t see a stop sign. The driver ran the stop sign and was hit by a Toyota SUV that was traveling northbound on 200 East.

The impact spun the Toyota around, and it came to rest in the middle of 300 South. The truck, meanwhile, continued eastbound and jumped the curb into the driveway of the townhomes, clipping a tree, knocking down another tree, damaging a “No Parking” sign and finally coming to a stop at the end of the driveway.

Hale said there was approximately $1,000 in damages to the landscaping of the townhomes.

The Dodge truck sustained moderate damage, while the Toyota was a total loss.

The passenger in the Toyota was about 7 weeks pregnant, Hale said. She refused transport by ambulance and said she would take herself to the hospital.

No additional injuries were reported.

The driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield, Hale said. All parties were wearing seat belts.

The second accident was reported at about 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Hale said a Hyundai sedan was traveling northbound on Bluff Street between 400 North and 500 North. The Hyundai slowed down with traffic and was rear-ended by the driver of a PT Cruiser who was not paying attention, Hale said.

Each vehicle was carrying a woman who was 36 weeks pregnant. Both pregnant women were transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to DRMC for tests and observation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

There seems to be a failure to see a stop sign epidemic….it must be that spring is here and the trees are blocking the signs….time to reevaluate the stop sign areas, paint stop on the road. That will help.

you’re right, people don’t read signs in this town. Heck, they don’t even know what red, yellow, flashing yellow and green mean. And forget about the speed limit signs, they don’t read those either. They definitely don’t obey, perhaps send em all to mandatory obedience school!

This does not surprise me one bit. I was in St George yesterday, I had people sitting on my bumper, driving too fast on surface streets, passing in turn only lanes, on their cell phones and not stopping at stop signs. Really people! stop signs are not optional. Utah drivers are the worst I have ever seen in my life. With all the infractions drivers commit here my feeling is they seem to think they have some kind of entitlement that the laws do not apply to them. They certainly do not learn from others mistakes, it happens every day. The state Motto needs to change to the Roll-Over State.

” Utah drivers are the worst I have ever seen in my life.”

Try Florida or Texas! I will admit, however, that in the six years I’ve lived here, I feel that things are getting worse.

“Utah drivers are the worst I have ever seen in my life”. Where else have you lived, Pam? I’ve lived in Northern Europe, Southeast Asia, Northern Asia, and 7 different states in the US. I’ve also worked or traveled Central and S. America and India. UT drivers are one notch above average for the US, and significantly greater than ave. of the world I’ve seen.

When did this become a competition of how many states and countries you’ve lived in? I suppose I wouldn’t think of the drivers in this town being bad if accidents weren’t reported almost everyday. I wouldn’t even know of an accident happening frequently if it weren’t for st George news. Thank you st George news for bringing to our attention people don’t see stop signs, mechanical failures, medical episodes, speed, and failure to make left hand turns safely 🙂

Three preg women in one hour?! Stupid coincidence or possibly a bad omen? Maybe something Satanic going on here? Open book driving test? These are questions we may never have answers to…

People should slow down especially on bluff st.. There is no excuse for running red lights, I see it all th time at many intersections,, when your light turns green, you have to wait , at least 3-4 cars still go thru the red light.. Maybe cameras should be put at all intersections, and just send the picture to the driver running the red light, that’s what they do in Europe, works great and people learn to stop running red lights..

Maybe if we make every Wednesday night the anti open book test night and serve beer and wine and have pole dancing ( with the dance permit.) of course. maybe we could get the LDS leaders oops I mean. government officials. Well the same thing. to cleanse our community of the evil and wickedness of open book testing……
