ST. GEORGE – The driver of a truck, who reportedly admitted to police he was speeding, came upon another vehicle on Brigham Road in St. George a little too quickly Tuesday afternoon and slammed right into the back of it.
Around 4:45 p.m., a man driving a blue Toyota Avalon had just turned left off of 120 East and was heading east on Brigham Road when a man driving a red Toyota pickup truck was speeding his way out of a nearby roundabout, also heading east on Brigham Road and passing everybody, St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.
“(The driver of the Avalon) pulled out and started to accelerate, saw him coming and actually hit the brakes thinking he was going to be able to go around him and he didn’t; he nailed him from behind,” Bangerter said.
“The red truck came up, wasn’t able to stop in time, locked up his brakes (and) left about 60 to some odd feet of skids prior to impact,” he said.
The crash happened about 160-175 feet from the intersection, so it wasn’t a matter of the driver of the Avalon pulling out directly in front of the truck, Bangerter said.
“He had pulled out and was in the lane and this guy was coming along just too fast,” he said. “Witnesses put his speed much higher … but he admitted he was doing at least 48-49 trying to get up speed to hit the hill, and just couldn’t stop in time.”
Only minor injuries were reported, Bangerter said. The men were both wearing their seat belts but the driver of the Toyota truck still hit his head on the steering wheel during impact.
While there was considerable damage to both vehicles as a result of the collision, the Toyota truck was the only vehicle rendered inoperable and had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the Toyota truck was issued a citation for speeding, Bangerter said.
A witness to the collision, who had stopped at the scene, was involved in another crash that occurred after the first, Bangerter said. However, he said he didn’t know the details of that collision as there was only minor damage and no injuries, and the drivers were able to take care of exchanging information without involving the police.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Forgot to add the part about the guy in the pickup waving his fist out the window and yelling “YEE-HAH”.
Have seen the idiot in the red Toyota many times. Hopefully he learned a lesson.
