ST. GEORGE — On Thursday the United States Census Bureau released population estimates for metropolitan and micropolitan areas as well as U.S. counties and Puerto Rico for the period of July 1, 2013- July 1, 2014. Estimates showed that of the top 20 fastest-growing metropolitan areas, St. George ranked fifth.
According the information released, the estimated population of St. George as of July 1, 2014 was 151, 948 which grew 2.9 percent during the stated time period.
Rounding out the top five fastest-growing metro areas are:
- 1. The Villages, Florida
- 2. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, North Carolina
- 3. Austin, Texas
- 4. Odessa, Texas
- 5. St. George, Utah
Utah also saw growth in its micropolitan areas with two Utah towns landing in the top 10 fastest-growing micro areas.
The top five are as follows:
- 1. Williston, North Dakota
- 2. Dickinson, North Dakota
- 3. Heber, Utah
- 4. Andrews, Texas
- 5. Vernal, Utah
Two of Utah’s counties ranked high in growth as well with both Wasatch and Morgan Counties among the 10 fastest-growing counties, coming in at No.’s 8 and 10 respectively. County information contained only counties with a population of 10,000 or more, according to the information released by the Census Bureau.
