ST. GEORGE — A 17- year-old was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George after he wrecked on his bicycle on the Bear Claw Poppy Trail south of the Bloomington subdivision Saturday afternoon.

St. George Fire Department, St. George Police Bike Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance responded at 2:10 p.m., about a mile up from the Bear Claw Poppy Trailhead just off Navajo Drive in Bloomington. The teenager had flipped over the handlebars of his bike, St. George Fire Capt. Dan Cazier said.

Cazier was uncertain what caused the crash, but the boy was carried in the Fire Department’s six-wheel Polaris Ranger, recently donated by Firehouse Subs,  to the trailhead where Gold Cross Ambulance was waiting to transport him to the hospital.

The teenager possibly fractured his collarbone, an injury that didn’t appear to be life threatening. Cazier said the teen was in a lot of pain and had another person with him who called for help.

“Be careful on the trail,” the fire captain said, warning other riders on the trail. “There are a lot of blind hills you can’t see over the top of before you’ve made it to the top.”

This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
