Dog allegedly crashes car into building before running away

CEDAR CITY — Cedar City Police officers responded to an incident Saturday where a car with no driver crashed into the Cedar City Shoe Repair Shop located at 520 S. Main Street

Just before 10 a.m., a Ford Fiesta with a German shepherd inside was parked at 535 S. Main St., when the car began to roll backwards across Main Street before crashing into the shoe repair shop, Cedar City Police officer Clint Pollock said.

After the Ford crashed into the building, the dog ran from the vehicle, Pollock said.

Ty Vinney, a witness to the incident, said he was working at The Wizz Gift Shop on Main Street when he heard yelling and screaming and a man chasing his car.

Vinney said he heard other people with the man discussing that the dog had knocked the car out of park.

Police were unable to verify if the dog had somehow shifted the gear out of park before it rolled down the street and into the building.

“No one was injured,” Pollock said. “The car did cross Main Street into traffic, but there were no other problems caused other than hitting into the building.”

Damage to the car and the building were minor and the dog was retrieved shortly after the incident, he said. No citations were issued.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Dog was just trying to find the drugs he smelt in the dash area. Just doing the job he was assigned to do? (or)
If he wasn’t on duty, maybe there was cute little terrier hiding in the glove box.

If the dog was properly licensed, used his blinker, and checked the blind spot, then it was simply an accident that happens to everyone. Slap his paws and let him go.

I suspect he had consumed fermented bacon bites, but PETA will have to investigate it.
