Dixie edged a point ahead of idle Pine View and Canyon View got a second region win for the first time in three years in Region 9 soccer action Friday night.
Ethan Poulton got his third shutout of the season in goal for the Flyers, while Jose Morales and Konner Aitken each notched a goal as Dixie shutout Cedar at Walt Brooks Stadium. It is the first goal of the season for Morales and the second for Aitken.
The Flyers, 3-0-1 in region, lead the region race 10-9 over the Panthers with the win, though Dixie has played one more game than Pine View. Dixie, 4-2-3 overall, battles Pine View next Thursday at PVHS in the first of two meetings between the teams.
Cedar, 1-5-1 and 0-3-0, is at Desert Hills Tuesday night.
Canyon View held off Hurricane 3-2 and the Falcons have now won more region games this season (2) than they have the previous two season, when they went 1-22-1 combined.
Chris Perez had a pair of goals and Brady Christensen also scored for the Falcons, who outscored the Tigers 2-1 in the second half. Canyon View led 3-1 after Christensen’s goal with 17 minutes to play in the match. The Tigers were able to pull within 3-2 in the closing seconds, but no closer.
CV, 5-2-1 overall and 2-2-0 in region, has won two straight and hosts Snow Canyon Tuesday afternoon.
Hurricane, which got both its goals from Kyson Spendlove, fell to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in region play. The Tigers are at Pine View Tuesday night.
