Driver says car turned on its own, causing accident near River Road; STGnews Videocast

ST. GEORGE — St. George Police were dispatched to an unusual incident Saturday afternoon after a car was found on top of a brick landscaping wall at the intersection of 1710 South Circle and River Road.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the driver of a Buick Century turned off of River Road onto 1710 South Circle, traveled to the end of the neighborhood, turned around and then took a sharp right turn, which caused the car to jump the curb and a brick landscaping wall near the intersection of River Road, St. George Police Sgt. Wade Johnson said.

“He said he was coming back and (the car) immediately took a right turn on its own and hopped the curb and hopped the wall,”Johnson said. “He said he has been having some mechanical issues with the car. We have no way to verify if the car is having mechanical issues or not.”

The driver was not injured in the crash, but the vehicle sustained damage to the hood and driver’s side. A couple of iris bushes and a sprinkler head were damaged in the accident, and some bricks were knocked out of the wall, Johnson said.

The driver was cited for unsafe lane travel.

The St. George Police Department attended to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
