ST. GEORGE – Police arrested a 30-year-old St. George man for aggravated assault Wednesday after he allegedly beat another man with a metal bar.
On March 14, officers responded to a fight on the 700 North block of 1000 West in St. George, according to a probable cause statement by St. George Police Officer Lynn Koester in support of the arrest.
After interviewing several people, officers learned that a physical fight took place between Mario Luis Aguado and another man, both of whom had left the scene before officers arrived, Koester said in the statement.
Later that day, a man called the Police Department to report he was physically assaulted by Aguado with a metal bar, according to the statement.
“Officer Koester met the victim at the hospital and observed several injuries,” the statement said, “including marks, scratches and a physical visible deformity to the victim’s left forearm that is consistent with being hit with an object such as a ‘metal bar.’”
The man said Aguado also punched him in the face and that he fled the residence when he believed Aguado was grabbing a kitchen knife.
Aguado was located by law enforcement on Wednesday, arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
“He does not realize that my brother was not the only one he hurt,” Sara Dickinson said in a message to St. George News, “he affected everyone in my family, including my niece who was in disbelief when she had heard about what happened to her dad and more shocked when she heard it was Mario because he was always so nice to her. He has changed this whole family with what he did. Things will never be the same and he doesn’t even realize it.”
Aguado was charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault. His bail pending trial stands at $5,000.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
