SALT LAKE CITY — Utah public officials and tourism leaders will recognize Utah’s $7.5 billion tourism economy Wednesday at the 9th annual Tourism Day on Capitol Hill.
“Tourism pays significant dividends for Utah and is vital to our state’s economy,” Gov. Gary R. Herbert said. “We are blessed with an abundance of recreational opportunities in Utah. The passion and dedication of those that work in our tourism industry is a big part of what makes ‘Life Elevated’ in Utah.”
Tourism representatives from 17 of Utah’s 29 counties will also be available, and will have booths displaying information about their tourism opportunities.
“We love tourists. They come to enjoy our spectacular landscapes, and they spend lots of money. Then they take their children home to be educated in other states,” said Vicki Varela, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism. “We have an ambitious agenda to expand on the $1 billion in taxes that tourism contributes to our schools, roads and other quality of life investments.”
