ST. GEORGE – A woman was ejected from her vehicle Saturday morning and the car landed on top of her during a rollover police said may have been alcohol- and speed-related.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, the St. George Communications Center received a report of a single-vehicle accident at 110 S. Mall Drive.

A woman estimated to be in her early 20s had been traveling south on Mall Drive when she lost control of her vehicle and it began fishtailing and struck the median, St. George Police Sgt. Jeff Bahlmann said. The black sedan rolled, ejecting the driver and landing on top of her on the opposite side of Mall Drive.

The woman was conscious but not alert when responders first arrived. She was bleeding and had sustained head injuries.

“(The St. George Fire Department) had to help remove her,” Bahlmann said.

The woman was freed from beneath the car and transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

As of Sunday morning, she was still at the hospital but in good condition, Terri Draper, communications director for Intermountain Healthcare’s southwest region, said.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

It took responders approximately 2 ½ hours to wrap up their initial inspection of the accident scene, Bahlmann said. An accident re-creation team was called out, and the accident is still under investigation as of Sunday afternoon.

“We’re still looking at other factors and getting things nailed down as far as what the contributing (factors) were leading to that accident,” Bahlmann said.

Though the accident is still being investigated, Bahlmann said it appears both alcohol and speeding may have played parts in the rollover.

Both northbound lanes on Mall Drive were blocked off from 2000 East to 110 South for more than two hours while responders attended to the accident.

The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Possible drinking and driving. She should have called a TAXI, the ride home would have cost a lot less.
