ST. GEORGE – Heavy holiday traffic was backed up for about an hour Saturday night after a two-vehicle collision on River Road in St. George.
“It’s Parade of Homes and Valentine’s. It was a mess,” St. George Police Sgt. Wade Johnson said.
At about 7:03 p.m., responders were dispatched to 1450 South and River Road, where a red Jeep had crashed into the back of a Hyundai passenger car.
Both inside traffic lanes on River Road were blocked as a result of the collision, Johnson said. Traffic was backed up for quite a distance as responders attended to the scene.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be removed from the scene by wrecker.
The driver of the Jeep, a woman, was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Johnson said. Johnson took the occupants of the Hyundai, a woman and her daughter, to the hospital in his patrol vehicle.
At the time of this publication, Johnson said he did not know who was at fault in the collision or whether any citations had been issued.
“If we can see that violations occurred, then we will cite on that,” he said.
It took responders approximately an hour from the time the emergency call came in to clear the scene and for traffic to resume an unimpeded flow.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

What happened to the front of the Hyundai? It appears to have significant damage from what I can make out in the photo.
That’s the rear of the car minus the red plactic light covers. Note the side view mirrors.
Ooppps. Looked like headlights. Guess I should have looked farther back.
