Susana Mary Schneider Swope Doty

Doty, Susana O (October 30, 1926 – February 2, 2015)

Susana Mary Schneider Swope Doty passed away February 2, 2015, in her home in St. George, Utah, at age 88, in the loving care of her children. She was born October 30, 1926, in Santa Monica, California, to John and Hilda Georgi Schneider.

Susana married Arthur William Swope in 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and later divorced. In 1955, she married Warren Winslow Doty in Ely, Nevada, and then later divorced.

Susana is survived by her sisters, Georgina Schneider Erickson and Bonnie Barker Larson; brother, Richard Barker; children, Cheryl “Bunny” Swope Young (Lanny “Bake”), Terry Swope (Vicki), Chip Doty (Karen), Jennifer Doty Dockstader (Jim), and Roxanne Doty Winder (Kirby); 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by mother and father; brothers, Orin Barker and Lynn Barker; and grandson, Jason Swope.

Doty, Susana YSusana spent her childhood in Salt Lake City and attended West High School. She moved to Ely, Nevada, then to Duchesne, Utah, where she raised her family and worked as a secretary at the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Department and as a legal secretary. Later Susana moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was a personal Secretary for Federal Judge David Sam for many years until her retirement to St. George, Utah.

Mom had a love of learning, reading, traveling, and attending the opera. She served as a Duchesne Deputy Sheriff for 12 years. She also enjoyed being in Duchesne Community Theater productions. She loved getting to know her grandchildren and attending all the blessings and baptisms of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was an active member of the LDS Church Pineview Ward and served as a missionary in the St. George Bishop’s Storehouse.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff, St. George.
  • A viewing will be held Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary and also on Saturday, Feb. 7 from noon-1 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
  • Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
