ST. GEORGE — A presentation by colleague and retired Utah Circuit Judge Robert F. Owens will be the feature at Monday’s meeting of the President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University, at which he will share stories from his book, “Tales of the Circuit Court.”

Owens’ book features several anecdotes from 15 years on the bench, including how the Utah Circuit Court began and various illustrations and drawings from his lifetime hobby of cartooning. Owens graduated from the University of Arizona Law School in 1954, and spent nearly a decade serving in the U.S. Army in clandestine operations in Europe.

He returned home to Phoenix in 1962 to practice law and then relocated to St. George to practice in 1974. After a few years, he was appointed to St. George City Judge, and then Utah State Circuit Judge of the four counties in southwest Utah, before retiring in 1992.

About the President’s Colleagues

The President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University, established more than 20 years ago by former DSU President Dr. Douglas Alder, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the St. George and Washington County area. Dr. Alder, who also started an Honors Program at Dixie State, organized the President’s Colleagues as a way to increase academic activities on campus.

The President’s Colleagues meet together once a month during the academic year to hear presentations from each other or invited guests. The March meeting will spotlight the 28th Annual Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale, with a presentation by DSU art professor Glen Blakley on March 2.

The meeting will begin at noon in Room 156 of the university’s Russell C. Taylor Health Science Center, located on the Dixie Regional Medical Center River Road campus, 1526 Medical Center Drive.

Meetings are free and open to the public.
