ST. GEORGE — The St. George Lions Club presented a $12,000 check to the Southwest Regional Cancer Center at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Thursday to support breast cancer awareness and research.
As a part of the “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” campaign, the St. George Lions Clubs has been donating money garnered from ticket sales on “pink” night during the Dixie Round Up Rodeo every year for the past 10 years, Lions Club Board of Directors Rodeo Chairman Greg Mathis said.

Certified Public Accountant John Ames and his wife, Lisa Ames, have sponsored the event during the 10 years of fundraising. Lisa Ames is a three-time cancer survivor, Mathis said.
Mathis shared his gratitude to the community in helping raise the money through attendance of the rodeo.
Dr. Derrick Haslem, Dixie Regional Medical Center medical oncology director, said the Lions Club donation will help cancer patients in St. George.
The contribution is a great way that community has come together to support a great cause and help many cancer patients within Washington County, said Dr. Lincoln Nadauld, medical oncologist and cancer genomics director at Intermountain Health Care.
“This has had a tremendous impact on individuals,” Nadauld said. “They come to our clinic, they see us, they talk about the kind of support that they receive, and how it enables them to keep going with their care and treatments so then can feel well and enjoy time with their families.”
