CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man was arrested Monday after he allegedly completely bit off another man’s nose during an altercation Friday.
Officers responded to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City Friday on a report of an assault, Cedar City Police Officer Addison Adams wrote in a probable cause statement supporting the arrest. At the hospital, officers were put in contact with a man who had been severely beaten.
“(His) nose was nearly completely severed from his face,” Adams wrote in the statement, “only remaining attached by a small piece of skin.”
Upon speaking with the injured man, police learned that 30-year-old Quinn Parrish had attacked him, the statement said. During the alleged attack, the injured man said Parrish bit or chewed through his nose.
The injured man also told police that he frequently gets marijuana from Parrish and that they had not smoked on the night of the attack, but had been drinking alcohol at Parrish’s residence, according to the statement.
Multiple attempts were made to locate Parrish over the following days, the statement said, and on Monday, Adams located Parrish at his home.
While interviewing Parrish, he admitted to being involved in the fight, the statement said. However, he did not admit to all that had allegedly happened.
“Quinn said he didn’t remember biting (the man’s) nose off,” the statement said, “but said he was very intoxicated and used all force necessary to survive.”
Police also asked Parrish about the alleged marijuana usage with the man in question, Adams said in the statement. Parrish admitted to having marijuana and several pipes; which he retrieved for the officers.
Parish was arrested and booked into the Iron County Jail. He was charged with one second-degree felony for mayhem and three class A misdemeanors for assault and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His bail for release pending trial is set at $13,100.
Because Parrish’s home was located with 1,000 feet of Southern Utah University and Cedar North Elementary School, all drug charges against him were enhanced by one degree.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
