BEAVER COUNTY — Two men were transported to Beaver Valley Hospital and southbound traffic on Interstate 15 was redirected for several hours after a UPS semitruck and a dump truck collided in Beaver County Wednesday afternoon.
At 4:33 p.m., a triple-trailer UPS semitruck was traveling behind a slow-moving dump truck in the same southbound lane of Interstate 15 near milepost 124 when the semitruck crashed into the back of the dump truck, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Preston Holgreen said.
The dump truck rolled and landed on its top while the middle UPS semitrailer tipped over into the median of I-15. The rest of the semi’s trailers blocked all southbound lanes as a result of the accident, Holgreen said.
Both drivers were transported by Beaver Ambulance to the Beaver Valley Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Holgreen said. The UPS driver sustained head injuries while the dump truck driver had back and head injuries.
Both trucks were severely damaged as a result of the accident and were still being removed by tow trucks at the time of this publication.
Traffic was directed through the emergency lane and off the shoulder of I-15 while both southbound lanes were blocked off. One lane was reopened after 7 p.m. once part of the accident scene was cleared, Holgreen said.
At the time this report is published, no citations have been issued in connection with the incident, though the UPS driver was the at-fault driver for traveling too fast behind the dump truck, Holgreen said.
“Even if moving slow, you can’t run into the back of someone,” Holgreen said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the dump truck was traveling 30-40 mph and the UPS semitruck was traveling about 65 mph at the time of the accident, he said.
The Utah Highway Patrol, Utah Department of Transportation and Beaver Ambulance attended to the accident scene.

Even though you can’t run into someone going too slow on the freeway, the minimum speed limit is 45 mph, the dump truck driver should be cited as well.
Well the dump truck should have pulled over cause UPS drivers are always in a hurry and they think they have the right of way!!!
You got that right heaven forbid we end up in front of those ignorant UPS driver’s and we interfere with them driving those triple deckers out on the roads that they believe were built just for them

Generally, this is FEDEX. UPS drivers are held to much higher standard. I’m surprised to see one of their drivers involved with this type of accident.
The UPS Driver is a friend of mine. All UPS Employee’s and Driver’s That I know do their very best to get my package’s that I order delivered to my door step on time. I am thankful to UPS and the service’s they provide. Accident’s happen and everyone has a right to their own opinion. I am sad both Driver’s got hurt. I wish the best for both driver’s..
