ST. GEORGE — The annual Fire and Ice black-tie gala is scheduled for Feb. 27 at SunRiver St. George and offers attendees the opportunity to raise funds exclusively for need-based scholarships for Dixie State University students.

The funds raised at the Fire and Ice Gala benefit students who, because of financial constraints, may not otherwise be able to complete or pursue their college educations due to financial constraints.

The annual Fire and Ice Gala brings together a variety of benefactors for a silent auction, dinner and live auction as part of the Dixie College Foundation’s fundraising efforts.

A recent recipient of a Fire and Ice Scholarship was Everton Araujo. He came to play basketball at DSU in 2009.  He needed help to continue his education, he said, and the scholarship made it possible for him to do so.

“I’ve since graduated from DSU with a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies (Business Administration and Mass Communication),” Araujo said, “and I am finishing my master’s degree in Public Administration.”

Everton Araujo is currently employed as the international coordinator at Dixie State.  He and his family enjoy living in the area and being a part of the “Dixie spirit” they  discovered here in St. George, he said.  Araujo and his wife, Melisa Araujo, have been married for nearly six years and have a 10-month-old baby girl named Livia Marie.

“We’ve had the opportunity, over the past 10 years, to contribute to hundreds of students’ educational efforts, allowing them to attend Dixie State University through one of our need-based scholarships,” Dixie College Foundation President Randy Wilkinson said. “With these scholarships, they are able to continue their education and open opportunities in their lives.”

tcs110 (1)The 11th Annual Fire and Ice Gala is open to everyone, and advance tickets are required.  Tickets are $150 each and are available by calling Marilyn Lamoreaux at 435-652-7502.

All proceeds from the Fire and Ice Gala go 100 percent to need-based scholarships for Dixie State University students.  The Dixie College Foundation has 501(c)(3) status so individuals or entities can make this a tax deductible contribution.  Community members are invited to be part of this event.

    Will there be dancing?

$150. I don’t think that includes dancing, maybe if they all chipped in another $50 they could get a dance without a permit.

$150 is rather steep to just sit and eat and listen to people talk. Isn’t it legal to dance in SunRiver?

    • omg koolaid is a scream!! January 26, 2015 at 6:42 am

LOL!!! You’ve done it again!! You asked whether there would be dancing because of the recent event in St a George at which dancing was not permitted!! (Which in turn reminded us all of the movie Footloose”) And since dancing commonly occurs at a gala, it does indeed bear the question “will there be dancing”? Hahaaaaa, that is hilarious!!!
