A-List: The best hot chocolate in St. George

OPINION – When it comes to hot chocolate, I have one simple rule: don’t settle.

I mean it! It’s been said that there are too many mediocre things in life; I say, winter’s best beverage shouldn’t be one of them.

So say goodbye to clumps. Run away from anything that says “just add water.” Why? Because you deserve the best.

In order to provide you with the very best, I conducted the ultimate hot chocolate taste test (with the help of a few self-proclaimed hot chocolate connoisseurs.)

And because no two tastebuds are the same, here’s a selection of seven cups of hot chocolate heaven. (In no particular order.)

Jazzy Java

Order a black and white hot chocolate. 1/2 dark chocolate + 1/2 white chocolate = happiness.

Swig

If you’re a coconut fan, the dirty hot chocolate will be your new best friend. Dirty diet cokes were so 2014 anyway. Relax, I’m kidding. Order both. YOLO.

25 Main

The peppermint hot chocolate is a crowd favorite, but you can choose any flavor of your choice. AND they have cupcakes. So everybody wins here.

Kneaders

The European hot chocolate takes hot chocolate to another level. Secret ingredient? Mini chocolate chips. Sold? I knew you would be.

Perks!

Perhaps the best grab-and-go option in town. Because let’s face it, when it comes to hot beverages – Perks! certainly knows what they’re doing.

Xetava

I have yet to try anything here that I don’t fall in love with, and the cocoa supreme is no exception. They add almond roca, (brilliant, right?) It also doesn’t hurt that the whipped cream is homemade. Xetava, you’ve done it again.

Bear Paw

If you live in St. George and haven’t tried the hottest cup of cocoa in town, you’re missing out. Imported Belgium cocoa, steamed milk, real whipped cream – all topped off with vermicelli sprinkles? Dreams do come true.

Waffle Bliss

Bonus! Since winter in St. George is unpredictable, sometimes you need a chocolate drink that’s not so hot. •cue Waffle Bliss’s FROZEN hot chocolate• You’re welcome.

Happy sipping!

Add a half a shot of vodka to any of the above and live a little.

What about Mezzo drinking chocolate available at the Harmons Coffe shop? A little spendy but worth every penny. True traditional drinking chocolate, premium quality.

MELDA. Oh absolutely worth the price

I have to disagree with the only place on here that I have actually had hot chocolate from and that place is Swig. I was very disappointed by their dirty hot chocolate, it was more like barely any taste hot chocolate. Wasn’t very good at all. I still love there pink cookies though!

I was very disappointed in the same drink at Swig as you were

Waffle Bliss & Waffle Love are both food trucks. Personally, I prefer Waffle Love. And try adding a shot of butterscotch schnapps to hot chocolate and add a dollop of whipping cream… Yummy!

  • Foodlover January 23, 2015 at 10:44 pm

Waffle Bliss is delicious. Best food truck in town & they’re local…and they come to Hurricane so even better. Try their white frozen hot chocolate- I normally like milk chocolate better but the white is amazing.

Thanks foodlover I’m going to try that
