ST. GEORGE — Hip hop artist B. Taylor visited St. George students and the Shivwits Indian Reservation Friday, not only to perform, but also offer youth advice for the future. Taylor made the Southern Utah desert his first stop on a tour promoting his new album, “1 Life: The Movement,” expected to be released later this year.

In addition to visiting Snow Canyon High School and Red Mountain Elementary schools, Taylor went to the Shivwits Indian Reservation. He performed songs and encouraged the youth to never give up. His main message centered on his belief in faith, and against all odds, continuing forward to pursue the wildest of dreams.

This was the first time someone famous like Taylor has visited the youth on the Shivwits Reservation, Shivwits band of Paiute member Travis Duran said, which made this occasion rare and special.

“I think it was good for the kids. It inspired them to think about their futures and what else is out there,” Duran said. “A lot of people don’t know the reservation is out here. He talked to one little girl who has some family troubles and it seemed to really boost her up.”

Taylor said he returned to his musical background by pure happenchance and being in the right place at the right time. Because of this, he said he feels that keeping faith is the key to unlocking unlimited possibilities, and is what led him to embark on a mission of traveling to cities and meeting with underprivileged youth, particularly the minority communities.

About B. Taylor

In addition to his musical talent, and according to his website, Taylor was a sailor in the U.S. Navy and received an early honorary discharge to pursue a career in entertainment and became an ambassador of music for the U.S. Navy. Taylor was the first hip hop artist asked to perform for both President Bush’s family and President Obama’s family, as well as the first artist approved to shoot a video on the USS Midway Carrier.
