At approximately 8:00 a.m., St. George Police received reports of a vehicle collision at the intersection of River Road and Fort Pierce Drive, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.

A Honda passenger car, driven by a 15-year-old girl and carrying an adult male passenger and a six-year-old child, was stopped at a red light facing south on River Road, Despain said. At that time, a Jeep Wrangler, driven by a man driving south,  rear-ended the Honda.

“The Jeep, for whatever reason, didn’t see that the light was red,” Despain said. “It hit the (Honda) pretty fast. It was going between 30-40 mph.”

The 15-year-old girl operating the Honda was driving with a learner’s permit, Despain said.

All three occupants in the Honda were injured and transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center, Despain said. At this time, the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Both vehicles were damaged, and a tow-truck was required to remove them from the scene, Despain said.

“Getting rear-ended at that speed is pretty significant,” Despain said. “It caused a fair amount of damage to both vehicles.”

The driver of the Jeep was not injured, Despain said, but was given a citation for following too close.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Poor guy. Wonder if his I Phone was damaged? Hope he was he insured and not in the country iilegally. Now if he was from California, he has no problem.

I’ll be surprised if he’s not just a local yahoo. We don’t need to worry about illegals or California drivers when we have plenty of local drivers, St. George born and bred, who drive like maniacs. Let’s not shirk that knowledge. Just look down your block, you’ll find one.

This looks like the jeep that went speeding past me a couple of days ago headed to River Road. I thought at the time it was an accident looking for a place to happen. I’m sorry to hear it happened and hurt everyone but the driver of the jeep. A ticket for following too closely is hardly enough for a driver like this. Failing to notice that a light is red and that traffic ahead is stopped is more like dangerous or reckless driving at the least. Hope he’s got good insurance to pay for the damage he caused and I hope the young driver of the Honda didn’t get too traumatized to drive again. This city really needs to get off its duff and do something serious about the reckless drivers here. We all see it every day.

Yeah, and when you do see somebody pulled over, it is either a teenager or a minority. Why don’t they ever stop the old white people who can’t drive worth crap.

  • Itsajeepthing January 15, 2015 at 5:38 pm

This does not surprise me , I smack into somebody with my jeep and I came out unhurt. From observation I think jeeps should get a higher safety rating .
I have a good friend that ran head on with a rented Honda full of Chinese nationals and everybody went to the hospital but him.
