LITTLEFIELD, Arizona — A 51-year-old Arizona man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a confrontation and assault at Desert Springs Storage, located at 4057 E. Fleet St. in Littlefield, Arizona.

At approximately 2 p.m., Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, responded to the storage units where Mark Myers of Littlefield, Arizona, was allegedly threatening a man. The man had allowed Myers access to his storage unit, but later asked Myers to take his things and leave, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Specialist Trish Carter said.

The man had originally tried to help Myers out by allowing him to use his storage unit, Carter said, but Myers wasn’t doing the work the man asked him to do.

Myers allegedly climbed over the fence into the locked yard multiple times, Carter said, and the man confronted Myers about it Sunday.

During the confrontation, the man alleged, Myers got in his face and became threatening with his body language by chest bumping and spitting on him, Carter said. As Myers continued to threaten the man, the man punched Myers in the face and informed him that he had a gun.

“The victim became fearful and he informed (Myers) that he had a gun in his pocket,” Carter said. “He reached for his gun in his pocket, just holding onto the handle, but never showed or pulled it out.”

When law enforcement arrived, Myers denied yelling, spitting or chest bumping the man, but admitted to climbing over the fence into the locked yard multiple times, she said.

Law enforcement officers characterized the man’s behavior as self-defense and took Myers into custody, Carter said. Myers was booked into the Mohave County Jail Sunday and charged with a misdemeanor assault.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Good call by the law enforcement officer. Self defense is an unalienable right and the unnamed man was well within his rights to punch Myers and inform him that he was armed. Had he not, Myers would have probably done more than “chest bump and spitting”. When people take responsibility for their own security and safety, the bad guys will not win. Refuse to be a victim. Problem taken care of with no shots fired. Remember this man was trying to help out Myers to begin with, and Myers mistook his kindness and generosity for weakness. Evil lurks out there.
