HURRICANE — The Hurricane City Council revisited an amendment to a subdivision plat and discussed plans for the 2015 Veterans Day parade at its Thursday meeting.
Amendment pat For The Park subdivision
The council reconsidered an amended and extended plat for the Park Subdivision and possible authorization to resolve title issues by issuing metes and bounds descriptions and possible authorization to issue building permits. The item was originally considered at the Dec. 18, 2014, City Council meeting.
At the council’s Dec. 18 meeting, it was determined that a perviously amended plat for the Park Subdivision, located at 750 N. 200 West, was never filed and became lost, which then brought property boundaries into question.
Int that meeting, the council made the decision to allow for the issuance of building permits on lots in the subdivision to continue. At Thursday’s meeting, Attorney Russell Gallian, representing The Park subdivision, presented the amended and extended plat. He said boundary overlaps have been one issue.
“The complexity of this problem is mind boggling because so many people are involved with this,” Gallian said.
He said the expenses that have occurred on his client are in the $10,000 range and raising higher as the issue continues to be addressed.
While the issue was not something brought upon by property owners within the subdivision, they are still doing all they can to make it right. Gallian assured residents that the developer is taking responsibility and will pay the costs to resolve the issues.
The way to solve the problem, he said, would be property owners signing the plat proposed so as to resolve any issues present. In addition, boundary overlap problems are present and will be resolved by the owner submitting a quitclaim deed to fix it.
Mayor John Bramall expressed that the rights of the developer need to be protected. Councilwoman Ethelyn Humphries’ concern was on how to monitor the progress made once the amended plat is completed.
Gallian said documentation and signing by the lot owners would help show what is going on within the subdivision. The council members determined working with lenders and title companies would be vital to measuring the success.
Motion was put forth and approved with a 4-to-1 vote.
Veterans Day parade
Stephen Bird, commander of the Hurricane American Legion Post 100, presented a planning consideration for the 2015 Veterans Day parade. Bird suggested the parade begin with an aircraft flyover and tankers from Salt Lake City brought in for the event.
“We want to make this a great event for the community,” he said. “Because that is what we do, … serve the community.”
Bramall said the parade will be a great event to encourage people from all over the county to attend. He said all mayors within the county will be invited to the parade, which he believes will strengthen countywide involvement and unity.

Just how do you go about “losing a plat?” Did the developer lose it? Did the city lose it?
Something about this stinks!

yup dat guy. We are pretty simple bumpkins out here in Hurkane. We still believe in Patriotism and the community collective and have the highest regard for our veterans.
simples not the word it called load people on a 4 wheeler trailer and have them do the parade wave. You want to repect the why not feed them and a recognition dinner and let people get up and personal to thank them. ..don’t spin it but do something worth while. have you ever seen the parades in Hurricane they are the most non creative parade of people’s worn out crap paraded down the road.
That’s all we need more stuff for VETs. First off animals don’t even recognize these 6 year degrees as dr.s, why should humans. What a waste of time and effort. You want a parade for some one we should have it for the removing drug and alcohol folks. They’ve at least put some time into their craft.
