WASHINGTON COUNTY – The St. George Police department has added a new form of social media to its arsenal of crime fighting tools and public safety measures and is reminding citizens Monday to take advantage of the Washington County Citizen Alert Notification System by enrolling.
This public notification system allows the St. George Communication Center to broadcast information to a large number of people in the event of an emergency or critical incident, the Police Department said in a statement released Monday, and all Washington County Residents are eligible to participate in this program.
The system allows law officers and the communications center to quickly alert subscribers via phone, text, email and TTY/TDD messaging, providing real-time alerts on crimes in progress and critical incidents which may have an impact in the area the subscriber lives, works or goes to school.
“This has been used to notify residents of the search for lost children and missing endangered adults in their area,” the statement said. “It is also used to notify residents if there is a public safety threat, as was the case when a stolen vehicle crashed near Sun River and the occupants fled toward the residential area.”
The Police Department is encouraging everyone in Washington County to register with the system so they can receive these notifications.
The registration is easy and the service is free. Click here to sign up and begin receiving alert notifications.
