ST. GEORGE – An early morning burglary committed Wednesday marked the fourth time in a year a St. George electronics store has been broken into. The store’s manager said he hopes getting the word out about the incident will help lead to an arrest of the perpetrator.

At about 4 a.m. Wednesday, surveillance footage caught an individual inside RadioShack, located at 787 S. Bluff St. in St. George. The person broke through one of the windows and spent less than a minute inside the store. With a large bag in hand, the burglar filled it with various items and then left, store manager John Myers said.

“He had a big bag,” Myers said. “He looked like Santa Claus leaving the store.”

Thousands of dollars worth of inventory was taken, Myers said. As of Friday afternoon, he was still tallying up the overall costs of the stolen inventory.

Among the items taken were Beats headphones, tablet computers, a global positioning system and GoPro cameras, Ric Wayman, a Radio Shack employee, said.

“They knew exactly what they wanted,” Myers said.

The burglar, whom both Myers and Wayman described as likely being male, was wearing a baseball cap and kept his head low, Myers said. The burglar also appeared to be wearing gloves, so no fingerprints were left behind for police, he said.

Beats headphones and tablet computers were also the targeted items in a burglary that occurred around Christmas 2013 and during two other burglaries that have happened in the months since, Wayman said. The commonality of items taken led Wayman and Myers to speculate that the burglaries are connected.

The burglar appeared to know exactly where the items he wanted were kept, Myers said. He said he believes the burglar has been in the store before.

“It was a smash and grab and go,” Myers said.

The incident remains under investigation and police do not yet have suspect in the case, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said.

Recently, a string of attempted business burglaries occurred over the course of a single night, Triplett said, but nothing was taken because the would-be thieves were scared off by alarms. Triplett said the best thing business owners can do to avoid being burglarized is use alarms. He also recommended businesses install quality surveillance systems to help police identify suspects.

Myers said he’s done all he can to improve his store’s security, short of putting bars on the windows.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the other RadioShack burglaries is asked to contact St. George Police Detective Terrance Taylor at 435-627-4330.

Hitek, do you really think all of these trolls on this site actually have jobs and support their families? It’s more likely that they are on the internet 24/7 in their mothers basements.

So the electronics store cant seem to figure out how to install a sufficient alarm and surveillance system?? This is great advertising for them…. cant wait to go there for all my hi tech needs to talk to their intelligent and cutting edge staff!! so how many more robberies will it take for them to figure out it might be worth the investment to get better alarms?? Just looking at the surveillance camera shot, it looks like it was made by fisher price and is a cheap toy!
