WASHINGTON CITY — Two cars collided in busy afternoon traffic on Green Springs Drive Monday, blocking a lane of traffic and resulting in one driver being cited for failure to yield.
Just before 4:30 p.m., a woman driving a Volvo was turning left from the parking lot of IHOP, Petco Animal Supplies, and Home Depot onto Green Springs Drive (which becomes 3050 East in St. George) to travel southbound. She collided with a Ford Bronco, driven by a man traveling northbound on Green Springs Drive, Washington City Police Public Information Officer Ed Kantor said.
No injuries were reported by either driver, but both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed from the scene, Kantor said.
The woman driving the Volvo was cited for failure to yield, and traffic in the right northbound lane was blocked off during the cleanup of the accident, Kantor said. Washington City Police Department and Washington City Fire Department both attended to the scene.
Kantor advised drivers to be cautious on Green Springs Drive, especially when making left turns from parking lots.
“If the left turn isn’t necessary, don’t make it,” he said.
Green Springs Drive is a dangerous place to drive, and has been the scene of many serious and fatal accidents, Kantor said. In that kind of busy traffic, drivers need to be extra cautious.
“Slow down and take a couple minutes when making turns in that area,” he said. “Do it safely and get to your destination safely.”
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

That is SUCH an unsafe place to try to make a left-hand turn. They need to make it illegal to turn left out of that parking lot there, right turns only, and then install curbing and signs to enforce it. That would cut down on a lot of accidents.
I just bypass that entire nightmare there are several ways to get around there and never use the intersection. I do it all the time
there should really be a sign posted right turns only at this parking lot exit, There has been alot of close calls here and this really needs to be identified as a hazard area because of the heavy traffic on green springs drive.
There seems to be alot poorly designed traffic management in different parts of Saint George, especially where roads intersect and the way there will be no signs at specific divided medians at different locations in the city, Nothing is really uniform or the same, It isn’t bad if you live here and get used to it, but when there are a lot of transients on weekends and holidays and the influx of snowbirds, this really is the accident season around this city, and will continue to be until june, happy new year.
This collision happened in Washington City. It will be their responsibility to figure out how to decrease collisions at that location.
your right George, isn’t it saint George directly across the road?
I still see people having trouble navigating medians and intersections all over the place around Washington city and saint George though.
I generally go to Costco first and then right-turn into Home Depot/Walmart. If going the other way, I always go out to Telegraph and then left-turn onto Green Springs. A little longer, maybe, but much safer.
This is one of, if not the most, dangerous intersections in Washington County. Traffic engineers need to seriously take a look at restructuring it. It is very unsafe for not only the traffic, but also the many pedestrians who go through it as well. Many vehicles making right turns while they have a red light, do not even stop before making their turn…..basically running the red light as they turn. No wonder there are many accidents at this intersection. Law enforcement need added enforcement of the laws at this intersection. Wish I could say don’t wait until there is a fatality before doing something about it, as there have been numerous fatalities there already.
Oh yeah, it’s one of the best places in Dixie to play “Pedestrian Polo!” How many notches are on YOUR steering wheel? BWAAHAAHAAHAA! 😉
Just waiting to catch you crossing from Albertsons parking lot to IHOP’s parking lot…..then it’s pedal to the metal. You’re worth at least 7 points……BWAAHAAHAAHAA…..
Its too bad there isn’t another access road directly behind the walmart and home depot area that would intersect with the lights located near Costco, It would lighten the traffic load on telegraph a little bit and the access road could run between walmart and home depot, the two biggest stores that attract the most traffic in the first place.
And no thanks I am not looking for a traffic management job.
The traffic engineers are hired based on their status in the church. St George has the most worthy traffic engineers.
Regardless of whatever is done around here with the traffic engineering, we still have the same group of idiots and tourists trying to negotiate their cars as they text, talk, eat, drink, smoke, tanked on pharmaceuticals, picking their nose, tailgating, etc..
It doesn’t matter what latest engineering technology is put in place, it’s still like herding cats. Cats on acid, driving cars.
It stinks that cars coming from the south are not courteous to notice when someone wants to pull out. I pull out of Zion’s Bank all the time to turn right, and still people are in such a hurry they don’t seem to notice anyone else around them. Slow down and be courteous. Also, it would be nice if the PDs would begin handing out citations to those who refuse to slow down for anything. There may not have been an accident if the racecars hadn’t of been charging full steam ahead just to beat a yellow light. How lost we are, and how foolish and selfish people have become in this town.
In the same general area, I’ve learned to never be beside a car that is in the left lane, when traveling NB on Telegraph at 550 East. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen cars almost sideswipe the car next to them when they suddenly see that center divider curb, that “just come up out of no where!”
Can you say, “Open your eyes” folks?
NB on Telegraph is a great place in Dixie to play demolition derby. So how many sideswipes are on your car? BWAAHAAHAAHAA….
