SOUTHERN UTAH — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a “Wind Advisory” for multiple counties and canyons in the southwest Utah area in effect Monday until Tuesday.
Affected Areas
Washington County, Iron County, Kane County, Garfield County, Beaver County, Dixie National Park, Zion National Park, and the cities of St. George, Loa, Panguitch and Bryce Canyon.
Winds
Winds blowing north at 25-35 mph with wind gusts of up to 55 mph expected.
Timing
Strong winds will develop near the mouths of north to south oriented canyons in Washington county and are expected to peak late Monday night. These winds will gradually diminish around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Impacts
Travel will be impacted for lightweight and high-profile vehicles across far southwest Utah. Wind sensitive operations will be affected.
Precautionary and preparedness actions
A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty crosswinds which can make driving difficult.
