Four of the five Region 9 girls basketball teams ended up with runaway victories Friday night on holiday weekend action.
Dixie, Cedar, Hurricane and Desert Hills all pulled away from their opponents, with only Canyon View dropping a non-league game.
Dixie, playing in the Mesquite Holiday Classic in Nevada, whipped Valley High by a 57-16 score. the duo of Aubri Challis and Alexa Estridge continue to play well, Challis had 21 and Estridge had 20, each singlehandedly outscoring VHS.
The Lady Flyers led 22-2 in the first quarter and held a 32-6 halftime edge. Six other Dixie players scored, led by Taylor Whitson’s six points. Dixie plays home-standing Virgin Valley Saturday.
Desert Hills blasted Lehi on the Pioneers’ home v court, 90-48. Sophomore Ashley Beckstrand led the way with 28 points as the Lady Thunder had 52 points at the half in building a 52-28 lead at intermission.
Kenzie Done had 13 and Kylie WIlliams added 12 for D-Hills, which is now 6-4 and has won four straight. Done also had 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Beckstrand had 5 boards and 7 assists.
DH plays at Timpanogas Saturday at 4 p.m. before heading off to Christmas vacation. Lehi fell to 1-8.
Hurricane got its first win of the season with a 51-45 home win vs. Richfield. London Steglich led the way with 17 points and Jayden Langford and Morgan Huntsman had 10 each.
The Lady Tigers, 1-6, trailed by a 24-17 count at the half, but dominated after intermission. Hurricane continues its 2A/3A Preview experience Saturday with a game against Juan Diego at noon.
Cedar also won up in Richfield, beating Delta 47-38. Morgan Myers was the top scorer with 10 points and Courtney Morley had 9. The Lady Reds led 18-3 in the first quarter, but Delkta dominated the middle quarters and tied it at 34-34 after three. CHS owned the fourth.
Cedar, 4-2, plays Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center at 7:30 p.m.
Canyon View fell to Manti 60-51 at the SVC, with a bad second quarter spelling doom for the Lady Falcons. They got outscored 10-2 in the second and trailed 29-14 at the half.
Shontae Clark scored 21 for the Falcons, who fell to 2-4 with the loss. CV plays Delta at 3 p.m. Saturday.
