ST. GEORGE — National Park Service superintendent Rosie Pepito will discuss the history and current projects on the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument to kick off the 2015 Brown Bag Lecture Series on Jan. 9. Every Friday of the month, the Dixie Arizona Strip Interpretive Association, Bureau of Land Management, NPS, and Forest Service host the popular Brown Bag Lecture series.
The lectures provide unique opportunities for members of the public to learn more about the area’s natural resources and public lands. Speakers include geologists, range specialists, biologists, archaeologists, rangers and other specialists who delve more deeply into subjects tied to the Arizona Strip and surrounding public lands. The lectures bring the resources and public lands issues to the community’s doorstep, benefiting those who want to learn more before venturing out or wish to enjoy an armchair tour of some of the region’s remote and rugged landscapes.
The lectures, which begin at noon and last one hour, are held at the Interagency Information Center, located at 345 E. Riverside Drive in St. George, Utah. Due to the holiday season, there will be no lectures for the remainder of December. Lectures will resume on Jan. 9, 2015.
- Jan. 9: Come celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. National Park Service Superintendent Rosie Pepito will discuss the history and current projects on the Monument.
- Jan. 16: Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument is one of the region’s most spectacular living laboratories. Eathan McIntrye, Physical Scientist for the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, will share some of the newest and most exciting discoveries on the Monument.
- Jan. 23: Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument Archeologist David VanAlfen will discuss early Native American habitation on Mt. Trumbull and the Arizona Strip.
- Jan. 30: Join Milt Thompson with Dixie Four Wheel Drive to learn about some of the most spectacular backcountry areas to explore in southern Utah and northern Arizona.
