Propis, Joseph obit(October 4, 1923 – December 12, 2014)

Joseph J. Propis, 91, born October 4, 1923, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2014.

He is survived by Suzanne, his loving wife for over 31 years and who he loved so passionately and fully, and his two wonderful children, Jevene Propis Caracello and Gregory Porpis and grandsons, Taylor Propis and Dylan Propis and his sister, Julia Maniscalco. Joe had three step children as well, Michael Colella, Michelle Colella Hull and Daniel Polimino and grandchildren, Whitney, Brett, Damon, Taylor, Micah and Malia. He also had several nieces and nephews who adored him and his humble, thoughtful ways. It was always a delight for him to hear from any and all of his grandkids, nieces and nephews.

Joe was pre-deceased by his brother, John Propis and sister, Rose Moretta.

Born in Buffalo, New York, to Paul and Flora Propis, Joe spent his formative childhood and teen years there. He then moved on to college at Syracuse University graduating in 1947 with his Bachelor of Science degree. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast and athlete who started for the varsity football Orangemen and boxed on the varsity team in both high school and college.

Upon graduation from Syracuse he entered the General Insurance Business in Buffalo. Joseph owned and operated this business for over 25 years. Through the course of his successful insurance career he was also actively involved in both his profession and his community. He served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of New York State and volunteered for many political candidates. He was the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his unselfish service to the Buffalo community. He was also proud to be a veteran of World War II.

Joseph was humble and kind, filled with gratitude and his love of family. He generously shared this demeanor with all who met him. He will be missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched.

A special thanks to Sun Tree Hospice, especially Dr. Ken McDonald, Paige, Michael, Shay, and Barbara who were there at every turn. Their comfort and support were meaningful beyond words.

Funeral Services

  • Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 South Bluff, St. George, Utah.
