Cedar City band Wilhelm provided the early crowd with live music before the light parade began at 7 p.m. Close to 15 cars, trucks and other 4-wheeling automobiles toured down Zion Park Boulevard, lit head to wheel in colorful Christmas lights. The parade was led by Hurricane Marching Band and concluded with Santa on a bedazzled firetruck.
The event attracted locals as well as visitors.
“It’s really quiet this time of year,” Springdale resident Adam Foldesi said, “so to have a real parade come through, that’s pretty cool.”
After the parade, approximately 100 attendees gathered at the Canyon Community Center to enjoy some ice cream and shelter from the drizzling rain. Z-Arts Performing Arts Director Kellan Cox said that the inclement weather may have ffected this year’s turnout.
“We had a couple hundred last year,” Cox said, “but (for) the people who are in town, it’s nice to come out and get to mingle.”
Those who did come to the event were among the first to hear which local homes and businesses were awarded and recognized for their outstanding holiday light displays, as well as which floats received which awards.
