Two and a half weeks ago, Ashley Beckstrand was in the hospital, recovering from serious surgery on her abdomen. Friday night, she scored with surgeon-like precision in pouring in 40 points for Desert Hills in the Thunder’s 68-62 win at Maple Mountain.
It was a match-up of two of the state’s best young players, with sophomore Beckstrand and Golden Eagles junior Liz Eaton putting on a show. Eaton, the younger sister of BYU star Lexi Eaton, averages 31 points a game. She had 27 along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists as MM led by one going into the fourth quarter.
But Beckstrand and her teammates took over in the fourth to pull away for the win. Kylie Williams aided the cause with 14 points as DH improved to 3-4 on the season. Beckstrand had five 3-pointers.
The Lady Thunder play at North Sanpete Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Hawks are 4-1 and expected to contend for the Region 12 crown.
DH is home for Dixie Tuesday night.
Snow Canyon 57, Richfield 47
Madi Mooring had 15 points and Nikenna Durante added 11 as the Lady Warriors won their second straight after starting the year 0-5.
SC dominated the first three quarters, leading by more than 20, and Richfield had to rally big time just to get within 10 at the end of the game.
Snow Canyon, 2-5, led 28-13 at the half. The Warriors had nine different players score in the win. SC plays at home against Canyon View Tuesday night in a Region 9 battle at The Jungle.
Dixie 50, Moapa Valley 39
Alexa Estridge had a big game with 21 points as the Lady Flyers dominated the second half against the Lady Pirates.
Dixie broke away from a 26-24 halftime contest by outscoring Moapa 14-6 in the third quarter and 24-15 in the second half.
Aubri Challsi chipped in 9 points and Kaylee Hansen and Taylor Whitson added 8 each as Dixie improved to 4-1 on the season. The Flyers play at Desert Hills Tuesday in their next game.

London Steglich had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Tigers, but it wasn’t enough for them to avoid the home loss Friday night.
