SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Supreme Court has proposed a rule to establish standards of professionalism and civility of Utah’s judges.
A rule that governs the standards of professionalism and civility for Utah State Bar members — Rule 14-301 — has been in place since November 2004. The proposed rule for the judiciary outlines a similar set of principles with 10 standards to guide judges. The standards address bias, fairness, impartiality, ex parte communications, language and timeliness, among other factors.
The Utah Supreme Court’s Committee on Professionalism and Civility, which is chaired by Justice Thomas R. Lee, drafted the rule. The motivation for creation of the standards for lawyers was concern over a general decline in respect, courtesy and civility among some lawyers. The committee suggested that since standards for professionalism and civility among lawyers are expected, the same should be expected of judges.

Online comments can be submitted on the proposed rule. The deadline for comments is Jan. 16, 2015.

It is about time they may be judges, but they are just as human as anyone of us. And they should held to even higher standards then lawyers.

I say throw their b _tts outside in their shorts to pick up trash, empty beer bottles, used prophylactics and needles on the roadways. Also they can shine deputies shoes like their Grand pappy used to do back in the day.
