At approximately 4 a.m., a man was captured on video taking the charity barrel from the Wal-Mart at 1330 S. Providence Center Drive  in Cedar City.

The suspect stopped in a white Nissan Cube at the front entrance of the store, opened the vehicles’s rear door, and then entered the store, according to a Cedar City Police Department press release.

The man looked around to ensure no employees were watching, and then carried the barrel to the car before leaving, the release stated.

“The donation barrel was a large, clear barrel placed near the exit of the store so patrons can donate cash as they pass by,” the release stated. “It was estimated that there was at least one hundred dollars worth of donations inside the barrel. The donation barrel itself had an estimated value of one hundred dollars.”

Donations from the barrel are sent directly to the Utah Primary Children’s Hospital, the release stated.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Cedar City Police Department at 435-586-2956.
