WASHINGTON CITY — The Washington City Police Department has released the name of a man who died Thursday afternoon on Telegraph Street in Washington City after his Chevrolet Corvette rolled down a steep embankment near Coral Canyon Golf Course.
The driver of the Corvette, confirmed dead at the scene, has been identified as Vincent Stevick, 63, of Washington City, Washington City Police Public Information Officer Ed Kantor said.

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Washington City Police officers were called to the scene of an accident on Telegraph Street near Fourteen Fairway Drive. Stevick had been traveling westbound on Telegraph Street with a Boston terrier riding in the vehicle with him when the Corvette left the roadway and rolled down a 20-to 30-foot embankment into some trees.
Stevick was pronounced dead at the scene. Washington City Animal Control took temporary custody of the dog, which survived the crash, until family members of the deceased could be contacted about the animal.
The Washington City Police Department continued its investigation of the crash well into the night Thursday and then again Friday morning and into the afternoon, attempting to determine the cause of the accident. At the time of this publication, the reason the Corvette left the roadway is still unknown, but evidence gathered in the initial investigation indicated speed may have played a part, Kantor said.
“It’s hard to say what happened,” Kantor said. “Speed was a contributing factor, I’m safe to say.”
The state medical examiner took custody of Stevick’s body for further investigation into the ultimate cause of his death. Kantor said the medical examiner’s case may take anywhere from three weeks to three months to complete.
The Washington City Police Department’s investigation into the accident continues and will not conclude until the medical examiner’s investigation is finished, Kantor said.

Hmmm, two deaths involving middle to late-middle aged men driving sports cars, both Corvettes, driving too fast. Are we seeing a pattern here? Tragic they died, yes, but who’s to blame here?
