Kathleen Bennett Boone

Kathleen Louise Bennett Boone, age 78, died November 28, 2014, at a St. George Care Center, following a valiant struggle with cancer.  She was born November 30, 1935, in Evanston, Wyoming, to Ernest Theodore and Emma Matilda Scott Bennett.  She attended schools in Evanston, graduating from Evanston High School in 1954.  She served in the Great Lakes LDS Mission from 1958 to 1960 and later served two stake missions in the Pomona, California Stake and the Davis Stake in the Farmington/Centerville, Utah area.

Kathleen married James Roland Boone on October 8, 1975, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Brother Boone’s first wife, Ruth Flake Boone, had passed away on June 6, 1975.  He had traveled from his home in Jacksonville, Florida, to Salt Lake City to attend the October LDS General Conference, and was introduced to Kathleen.  She became a second mother to James and Ruth’s 14 children.  They returned to Jacksonville where they were blessed with 12 years of happy marriage.  James died on December 4, 1987.

Kathleen had worked in the mental health profession at different times in her life.  After moving to St. George, in 1989 to help care for her father, she worked in housekeeping at the St. George LDS Temple and as a school lunch assistant with the Washington County School District.  She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and gave devoted service in numerous callings throughout her life.  Kathleen is dearly loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her eternal family members: J. Flake (Carolyn) Boone of Snowflake, Arizona, Columbus F. “Coley” Boone and Frederick F. (Aliece) Boone both of Provo, Utah, Dorinda Boone (wife of the late Daniel F. Boone) of Clinton, Mississippi, Joseph F. (Alisyn) Boone, currently serving an LDS mission in England, George F. (Connie) Boone of Snowflake, Arizona, Hyrum F. (Gayle) Boone of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Melinda Block of Hebron, Indiana, Martha (McKay) Checketts of Liberal, Kansas, David F. (Mary) Boone of Mapleton, Utah, John F. (Evonne) Boone of Snowflake, Arizona, Elaine (Brent) Muhlestein of Bountiful, Utah, Michael F. (Karren) Boone of Rigby, Idaho and Samuel F. (Ruth) Boone of South Jordan, Utah; 123 grandchildren, 310 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her three sisters,  Marlene Avery of Draper, Utah, Ernestine “Tina” Langston-Collins of St. George, Utah and Janice (Dick) Smith of Casper, Wyoming.  Kathleen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom she dearly loved.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Snow Canyon LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 1610 North Dixie Downs Road, St. George.
  • A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 9-10:45 a.m. at the chapel.
  • Interment will be on Friday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Snowflake, Arizona Cemetery.
