NWS issues ‘hard freeze watch,’ forecasts 20 degree morning temps

WASHINGTON COUNTY — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a hard freeze watch for Utah’s Dixie in effect late night Sunday through Monday morning. The high wind warning issued Saturday remains in effect until noon Sunday.

Affected area

The hard freeze watch will affect Utah’s Dixie including the St. George area and Zion National Park.

Temperatures

Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid or upper 20s after midnight and last through much of Monday morning.

Impacts

Temperatures dropping this cold will likely kill crops and sensitive vegetation. Consider taking preventative measures such as covering or bringing sensitive plants indoors.

Precautionary/ preparedness actions

A hard freeze watch means subfreezing temperatures are possible. These conditions may kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected to occur or is occurring. Sustained speeds of at least 40 miles per hour or gusts of 58 miles per hour or more can lead to property damage. Vehicles, especially high-profile vehicles, can be difficult to control at times in high winds. Motorists should take extra caution.
