Opinion: Stop illegal immigration

OPINION – We should not be having this confrontation. What the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have allowed to happen during the past decade flies against fundamental constitutional principals. They have looked the other way and allowed waves of Mexicans to illegally enter this country. This is a travesty!

Think about it. What is a government supposed to do? Keep us safe. Protect our borders and provide those things that we cannot provide for ourselves like the infrastructure for water, electricity, utilities, and highways, et cetera.

There is a specific path for non-Americans to follow to enter this country and earn citizenship. It is a privilege that millions of legal immigrants have come to love.

In fact, some of our most ardent supporters for America come from the ranks of immigrants who can really appreciate the freedom and opportunity that they now have as Americans. They learn the language, study our constitution, and receive a civics lesson on the founding of this great nation. Most of all, they appreciate capitalism and the opportunity that it provides for them to create prosperity for their families.

So I am completely at a loss as to why the leaders from both parties have failed to follow their constitutional duties as stewards over our borders. It’s amazing that, today, we have no idea how many people are here illegally. Could we enlist the National Security Agency in this? Whether it is 12 million or the 4 milltion to 5 million that President Barack Obama wants to grant some sort of rights to by executive privilege, this action is wrong and without precedent.

And while Obama knows how unpopular this action can be, he continues to pursue it. He truly is a dangerous man.

Recently the center for investigative reporting said that nearly a half-million people were caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally year to date, and more than half were NOT MEXICAN! Could this be a security problem?!

And what about border crossings that we don’t stop? Could terriosts be sneaking across the border too?

This information was on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website on Oct. 10 for roughly five hours. Then it was pulled down and Utah’s own Rep. Jason Chaffetz said that he’s worried “they may have been taken down for purely political reasons.” He also said, “If this information is ready it should be made available. The idea that it was and then yanked down for political reasons is outrageous.”

Obama spoke of a truly transparent administration but what we now have is propaganda that originates from the White House and is fondly repeated by the leftist media. Sadly, too many low-information voters believe it.

This administration has refined the art of information control to a level that rivals Russia during the Cold War. I built a short wave radio when I was 12 and listened to Radio Moscow. Early in my life I realized that there are many ways to view the truth. This man and his accomplices have no regard for the truth. They create their version of what happened and their lackeys in the media repeat it without investigating its authenticity. They have no interest in the truth.

My wife has a friend from South America who immigrated properly to this country and it has taken more than a decade for his family to qualify for citizenship. Understandably, he is angry with the current state of affairs. We cannot allow their lawful path to citizenship to be poisoned by the arrogant threats of Obama.

We must push the new Congress, even before they are sworn in, to resist the president’s illegal threats. He has acted above the law for most of his time in office and shame on the GOP for being afraid to stop him. He is not King!

Republicans must close the border first. Period. You see what we have now is a revolving door. Right here in St George, Immigration and Customs Enforcement – or ICE – agents arrest illegals (who have committed a crime) and send them back to Mexico. But they return to continue their lawless behavior. This is outrageous.

For anything to change, we must put tremendous pressure on our representatives, both Jason Chaffetz and Chris Stewart and Sens. Mike Lee and the ever-silent Orrin Hatch.

But don’t stop there. Speak out loudly to all Republicans and let them know that we are at war with Obama. If we do not stop Obama now, then he will crush us in 2015.

Voters clearly gave Republicans a mandate to STOP Obama last week. But don’t think that we have plenty of time to change our direction. It starts now or not at all.

The problem for Republicans is that they are stuck in the defend and stop mode. We have to help Republicans behave and think like winners and leaders.

We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes made by Newt Gingrich in 1994. You’ll recall Gingrich engineered enormous victories in the House, but he was not prepared to govern.

This requires a new mindset; a mindset that most Republican leaders do not have today. Americans have overwhelmingly asked – no demanded – that Republicans reverse the damage of Obama.

Republicans have a mandate to stop Obama and to offer a solution to the socialist legislation that has been made law. To do this they must act responsibly. They cannot allow Obama to intimidate them. They must go on the offensive. THIS IS WAR!

We won a battle, now we need to win the war!

Thank you St. George News for his opinion.

  • american November 14, 2014 at 1:37 pm

As an American of Mexican descent, I take offense at your comment in the very first sentence of your rant. I was born and raised here in these United States and have served my country proudly and honorably in the US Army. I had a great career in law enforcement and retired from it recently.
“Waves of Mexicans to illegally enter this country. This is a travesty”. Do you even realize that there are waves of “other than Mexican” (OTM) that are apprehended continually at the border? And not just from Mexico and/or South America.
Be assured that, I too, am against what this so called president is attempting to do by executive fiat. He has consistently mocked the Constitution and has done everything in his power to erode this Country. Yes, he must and should be stopped.
If you think we have it bad economically now, wait till those 4-5 million illegals are allowed to stay and receive amnesty. I do agree with your article overall. Keep in mind that Americans did NOT vote n 11-4-14 for the GOP to negotiate with Obama, they voted for them to stop Obama.

    • laytonian November 14, 2014 at 4:05 pm

      “this so-called President”

Tell us about The Emancipation Proclamation.
Did you NOT know that it was a Presidential executive order?

You’re mad at Lincoln for that one, aren’t you? No more slaves to kick around!

      • James November 15, 2014 at 11:44 am

LAYTONIAN you’re not even making an apples to apples comparison. Slavery compared to the unlawful crossing of borders? Try again.

  • Roy J November 14, 2014 at 1:56 pm

In the 2012, $58.7 million from medical insurance lobbyists went to campaigns and candidates at the federal level. 68% of the $55 million that went to parties and candidates went to Republicans. Sham fight.

  • Roy J November 14, 2014 at 1:58 pm

I am aware this article isn’t about healthcare per se, but I think it’s foolish to not deal in the practical realities of politics.

  • Koolaid November 14, 2014 at 2:36 pm

Well, maybe if local people would stop hiring those landscaping and construction companies. Funny thing is on Sunday, they’re probably in church sitting next to those business owners who hire illegals.

    • Zonkerb November 14, 2014 at 5:17 pm

KOOLAID. exactly there it is plain and simple

    • James November 15, 2014 at 11:45 am

As a contractor, I refuse to hire illegals or hire subcontractors who use illegals. Yes, that means drywall too!

  • villager November 14, 2014 at 3:03 pm

I have to say I am scared. We need to do something rapido!
All right, enough with fear politics; I would like you to think who picked the fruits and veggies you ate for lunch, would you or your family work for the same amount they do? Most people in our country don’t want to do hard labor. That’s the origin of the whole immigration issue in America.
In Southern Utah, restaurants and hotels run thanks to cheap labor (some illegal). Saint George boomed thanks to illegal
immigrants ‘ s hard work. It continues. ..
Just go out at 7 am see who is working outdoors. They deserve something else besides crumbs that fall off the table.
Money is the drive to do things outside of law. I’m saying it for us not for the hardworking people of Mexico and the world who have come here with high hopes, only to be treated like a pest instead of a blessing, (huh).
Used and abused to be later given a kick in the butt. Does it sound fair to you?
Let us think higher than average. Let us not blame our problems on people. Start with oneself. Thanks.

    • Koolaid November 14, 2014 at 4:45 pm

Before addressing the issues about illegals, how about addressing illegal issues with polygamists which have existed long before the subject of illegals came about?

      • Zonkerb November 14, 2014 at 8:09 pm

Can’t do that in Utah because alot of your Utah leaders are polygamist

      • Jimbeau November 17, 2014 at 6:16 am

Two different subjects. Please try to stay focused.
Regarding ‘polygamy’… if gays can be married, why not everyone else?

    • James November 15, 2014 at 11:50 am

Enough of the “who’s gonna pick the veggies” crap! Here’s the reality: Illegals come here and take the jobs you are referring to. Then they get acclimated and become demanding and entitled. They are also some of the most disloyal workers I have observed. So, who would pick the veggies if they weren’t around? Obviously, I will have to pay a little more at the grocery store because of it, but don’t mind if it means keeping local jobs local with the money earned going into the same pool that I am paying into–rather than being exported elsewhere. Long term it is a proven success.

  • Bender November 14, 2014 at 3:07 pm

Bob, your paranoid anit-Obama rants don’t stand up to scrutiny. This president has deported as many, or more, illegal immigrants as did Bush previous to him. The only reason Obama is threatening reasonable unilateral action on immigration is because the loony far right of the Republican party won’t allow any kind of immigration legislation to take place.
    .
I’ll believe that guys like you mean business on illegal immigration when I see you agitating for strictly enforced employer sanctions on employing illegal immigrants instead of calling Obama the Anti-Christ. Every fast joint and motel I look at in Washington County is clearly violating federal and state law. Almost every small building contracting company here consists of a returned Mormon Spanish speaking missionary owner and a team of one or more Mexican laborers. You know what? Strict and effective employer sanctions will never take place. The guys pulling the strings in the local real estate and building industry will never let it happen. They sit back and wink at the situation, call themselves patriots and leave fools like you, Bob, to scream against Obama and socialism while they make bank. If we stop employing undocumented workers, they self deport. Won’t happen.

    • bribri November 14, 2014 at 10:00 pm

Its sad but what a lot of people refuse to realize, is that we have created this employment situation ourselves. It used to be that our young performed all of these entry level tasks. I started working as a dishwasher at the age of 13. Now we don’t allow our youth to work at all at that age and at an older age say 16 there are so many rules and regs dictating what they can do, when they can do it, and how many hours they can work. On school nights the law says they cant work past 7 pm. Another issue that has come back to bite us, is the minimum wage laws. Businesses cant afford to pay what we mandate they do. People that are pushing the fast food industry to pay a minimum of $15 per hour are nuts. In order to stay in business the owners would have to pass the increase on to the customers and at that point no-one could afford to purchase it. Then the business closes and are “nicely paid” employees are UN-employed. People should really think things through and research what has changed before blaming it all on employers.

      • Bender November 14, 2014 at 11:43 pm

“Businesses cant afford to pay what we mandate they do.”
        .
That makes no sense. By definition, business are affording the minimum wage, since they are still “businessing” and employing people at the minimum wage and above.

    • James November 15, 2014 at 11:52 am

Phony argument, because your Democratically controlled Senate did absolutely NOTHING about the matter either.

  • Bobs an idiot. November 14, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Holy s&$t! Bob, is like… foaming at the mouth angry.

It would be funny, if it was t so sad.

I bet that gay people are ruining his life too!

Fortunately, bob looks like he’s on his way out… Hurry it up, bob, kids now-a-days realize we have better things to worry about than hard working people who come to the USA and try and make a better life for themselves.

I think I might start a business just to hire illegal immigrants and piss bob off.

  • laytonian November 14, 2014 at 3:59 pm

“Could terriosts be sneaking across the border too?”
The 9/11 terriosts [sic] came in through CANADA and that northern border has stopped several REAL planned attacks.

When the Mormons came to Utah, it was Mexican territory. UNTIL just a few years ago, we welcomed immigrants.

IF wages were higher, would citizens dig ditches, clean hotel rooms, cook your restaurant food, mow your lawn?

Quit blaming the immigrants. YOU are from the same stock: striving people.
Oh wait…this complaint is only about the BROWN immigrants coming in through the southern border.

Mia Love’s parents stayed longer than their Visas permitted.

  • PROTECT THE SHEEP November 14, 2014 at 5:03 pm

Funny how, like Koolaid pointed out that it is all illegal mexicans doing the LDS church landscaping all over town. So what’s up with that?

  • Also an American November 14, 2014 at 5:12 pm

As I was reading this article I tried to picture who was writing it…..hmmm ….has to be a white guy, older, financially well off….hates with a passion our black president, thinks all illegal immigrants are MEXICANS, but will never admit he’s a racist….also, has to be a right-wing ultra conservative constitutional loving NRA member Republican (an proud of it). Bob……you and everyone that thinks like you are dangerous. Your solutions to solve very serious problems are to “crush Obama….”. The word Fascist comes to mind(“go to war”, “crush”, “go on the offensive”)……In other words agree with me and become my brother or disagree and I’ll crush you. Why can’t you offer some path of compromise, offer a little sympathy for the plight of illegals, show some humanity? I’m sure you’re a God fearing man, so why don’t you ask yourself….”what would Jesus do”?

  • Zonkerb November 14, 2014 at 5:15 pm

Get rid of Obama and hunt down all that illegal trash and GET THEM OUT OF HERE

    • koolaid November 14, 2014 at 11:09 pm

      It’s Bush’s fault!

    • Marcos November 15, 2014 at 12:02 pm

Or we can hunt down all the ruethless low lifes like you and GET THEM OUT OF HERE.. legal or illegal. That will make the United States soo much better!(:

    • Austin November 15, 2014 at 12:09 pm

Can they at least finish my roof before we get them out of here? :$

    • Josh November 15, 2014 at 12:11 pm

But first let them finish my roof 😉

  • James November 14, 2014 at 5:45 pm

Every LEGAL immigrant group from Ellis Island to the present (including a relative who came over from England in the 60’s) did so through the legal avenues provided to them and did not demand special exemptions and loopholes to avoid doing what every Irish, German, Polish, Asian, etc. immigrant has been required to do. That is what separates these other respectable ethnic groups from what most observe to be entitled Latinos. Many Latinos rally behind the radical hateful group La Raza, which advocates anything but what the legal immigrants endured to pay their dues and follow proper legal immigration protocols. Ask the Lationo amnesty groups if they believe they are entitled to reclaim the Southwestern U.S. (without legal due process–just the sheer force of unilateral legislation) as La Raza claims? “We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us” is the La Raza rally cry. Where are the examples of Latinos who aren’t manipulatively trying to skirt the laws and requirements that other immigrants have respected and followed? That is why I, and most Americans, have little respect for their cause. Play the racist card somewhere else. This issue is all about judging everyone (Nationality does not matter–Irish, German, Polish, Chinese, Latino descent, etc.) based on the content of their character. Before Obama finally proves to all that he believes himself to be an unaccountable Monarch with an executive order on amnesty, why aren’t more honest, law abiding Latino’s speaking out against such an abuse of power? Advocate for such lawlessness and you will get no respect. Denounce the hateful group La Raza and stand in line like everyone else, and you will be accepted.

“So I am completely at a loss as to why the leaders from both parties have failed to follow their constitutional duties as stewards over our borders.”

it’s simple — follow the money. Business’s large and small benefit by having labor that is cheap and non-demanding due to fear of being reported to ICE. Don’t be surprised if Utah’s representatives in Washington aren’t ardent supporters of strict enforcement of immigration laws. After all, Utah is a sanctuary state — read the Utah Compact which has been endorsed by the major business and social forces in the state including indirectly the LDS church.

  • St.george nazinews November 15, 2014 at 12:10 am

Why is it okay to comment with negitive lies and comments about the majority religion, majority race, majority of good looking people, majority of political party, majority of hard working american, majority of heterosexual marriges. But every time a comment is made about the minority that is said in truth it is never printed. The st. George nazinews controls what is commented on and seen, because they judge what to approve, only the negative lies and comments of the minority, it can be said, the whole organization with its writers and staff will be welcome to …. Bonerfried liars.
    Ed. ellipsis.

  • pro yo November 15, 2014 at 7:45 am

Shame on St George news for printing this Bob guy’s rant. Bob is a wing nut. Mandate? republicans won the election yes – but 28% of the people voted; so they won with 15%. Obama won an election too Bob; with way more votes…. so he has a mandate too. If republicans had attempted to pass any kind of progressive legislation over the pst few years; maybe the country could move out of gridlock. But no, all the conservatives do is complain about the other side.

  • Jon November 15, 2014 at 8:02 am

This “opinion” piece is completely unoriginal, and put together with very little thought. It simply echos the what this gentleman has heard day after day from his favorite radio talk show hosts. For an opinin piece, it is surprising how utterly predictable it was.

Hey DICK, just so you know, I also am a Native American. I was born in this country, as were my parents and their parents. Sort of sounds to me like that makes all of us Native Americans. Oh yeah, my ma’s ma was an American Indian.
