I assume your comment is intended for the sheep in New York, Illinois, California and other liberal strongholds around the country who voted for Democrats as they always do, despite ample proof over the last six years that liberal policies are unpopular and harmful to the well being of the majority of Americans.

I cannot believe the close call on proposition 3. Why are people so aposed to expanding art?

    • Del November 5, 2014 at 4:20 am

So many are opposed to increasing taxes

    • Big Guy November 5, 2014 at 5:15 am

Because government has no business promoting ANY business. Artists and art lovers see themselves as promoting some greater good and therefore have a right to public tax money. This is problematical for two reasons. First, who thinks government is competent or capable of making artistic decisions? And when it does, even when it hires artists to make these decisions for it, these choices will inevitably lead to unnecessary controversy. Second, if fine arts are worthy of government support, why not authors, photographers, newspaper editorialists? Why not professional sports: baseball, football, soccer? Why not amusement activities: movie theaters, water parks, laser tag, craft fairs, flea markets? Fine arts should be supported by those who choose to pay for them, not by forced taxation for the benefit of a small minority.

Maybe it’s because they’re more interested in educating our children, such as teaching them how to spell oppose.

    • Everyone November 5, 2014 at 6:22 am

They would rather put money into general education to teach things like “spelling”

Arts are great! We should have diverse and well funded art programs….funded by the private sector. This taxes all sales items except food. The diapers, wipes, clothes, school supplies, household items, used car sales, All necessary items to live will be taxed to fund arts that I may or may not enjoy/ agree with. I am fine with paying for the arts, when and where I want to see them. I don’t want to pay for the others to enjoy the arts they enjoy, they can and should pay for that themselves. Private corporations can apply for these funds which only creates lobbying for money. Donations for the arts is how it’s should be funded, not taxing the single mother or father.

Don’t want to foot that $3 million bill for the Electric Theater. I think it should have been sold on the open market to private enterprise, not become another taxpayer burden by a Republican government that raises taxes.

  • Zonkerb November 4, 2014 at 11:13 pm

You like art so much pffffft you pay for it

  • Dolly November 4, 2014 at 11:23 pm

Noone, it’s because art is the last thing on someone’s mind when they can’t afford to feed their children. Let the City hold fundraisers so folks that have the means can contribute, and quit trying to pry the last cent out of “everyman’s” wallet.

  • Zonkerb November 5, 2014 at 1:48 am

Hey its still a dance free zone so dancing is no longer an art within the city limits of Nazi St George

  • Wheeler road November 5, 2014 at 5:33 am

I don’t think its an opposition to art as much as an opposition to more taxes. So many agencies have their hand in our pockets already taking money from us for programs that should be funded by other means or not at all. At some point there is no more.

How can people vote for someone into the school board when he has no idea about education. He only gets voted because of his name. People really need to look at things and see what is going to be best for the community, and our children. We don’t just vote because we know who he is and don’t know the other person. I would have preferred to have a school board member be someone who knows the educational system and has experience in it, not just someone who is known in the community. I would question his ability to perform the job with all of the other stuff that he is doing.

    • Frank November 5, 2014 at 9:34 am

Because he is smarter and will do a much better job.

    • Koolaid November 5, 2014 at 10:30 am

It’s what you call straight-line party votes. It’s how Utah people vote, because they think they are supposed to vote that way.

      • KittyCat November 5, 2014 at 7:05 pm

The school board candidates are NP, doesn’t that stand for no party? Straight line voting wouldn’t apply for the school board if they aren’t party affiliated

I hope that when all the provisional and mail in ballots are counted, that Prop. 3 will go down in defeat. Reporting that it HAS passed is irresponsible of the Lt. Governors office. If people want something, let them pay for it themselves. My recreation and art is fine firearms and the shooting sports. I don’t ask anyone to pay for it for me. You like to see and admire paintings, sculptures, butterfly collections, and the performing arts, (which by the way, are really expensive for tickets), then YOU pay for it yourself. Art and recreation are in the eye of the beholder. Just make others pay for what YOU want!!

The results posted by the Lt. Governor’s Office and the Washington County Clerk, and reported by St. George News are all specifically noted as preliminary results and subject to canvass, sleepy hallow. That is always how it is with elections; in a sense, none are final until they’re certified.
      I hope that helps?
Nice to hear from you 😀

Correction to last line of my post: Just DON’T make others pay for what YOU want!
