Veterans Home 5K benefits Washington County Junior ROTC

IVINS – The public is invited to attend the first annual Veterans Day 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run to be held Saturday at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins.

The event gets started with the posting of the colors by the color guard from the Washington County Junior ROTC, followed by the start of the 1 mile walk, run or roll. This race is designed for Veterans and others with disabilities, as well as youth or racers who need the shorter distance. For safety, racers with disabilities are asked to have a companion race with them.

The 5K Fun Run will start at 10 a.m. from the Veterans Home and will also finish at the home. All participants will receive a participation award. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit Washington County’s Junior ROTC.

Southern Utah Veterans Home is a nursing home for veterans which is owned by the Department of Veteran and Military Affairs and operated by Avalon Health Care, Inc. The Home recently opened a 12 bed Post-Acute Care and Rehab Community. Southern Utah Veterans Home accepts veterans and spouses of veterans.

Registration for the race must be done in person – no online registration is available – and will take place at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. Registration can be done in advance or the day of the race.

Registration is $15 per person or $50 for a family of up to 5 racers. Registration forms are available at Ivins City Hall, 474 N. 200 W., and at Southern Utah Veterans Home, 160 N. 200 E., Ivins.
