ST. GEORGE – Seeking his fourth term in office, Don Ipson is running for re-election to Utah’s House of Representatives District 75. He has held his current position since January 2009, and if he wins, looks to continue a strong run.
Ipson founded DATS Trucking in 1988, and currently serves as its president and CEO. He attended and graduated from LDS Business College with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. As a resident of St. George, Ipson has been a big part of many community events, such as the decision to change Dixie State College to Dixie State University.
“The community had been really good to me, and it was a time in my life where I could give back. So I decided to do that,” Ipson said. “I’ve got the experience that those I’m running against don’t have. I’m there, I’m established with my colleagues, I’ve served in leadership, I’ve been chairman of committees, I just got the experience and wherewithal. I’m respected by my colleagues, I’m able to get things done.”
Ipson sits on several committees, including the Executive Appropriations Committee, the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee, the Legislative Management Committee, the State Water Development Commission, and the Transportation Interim Committee.
Ipson has also expressed support for a transfer of public lands management to the state, as well as the idea of the proposed Lake Powell Pipeline. During his 2012 run for re-election, Ipson said he “wholeheartedly” supports the land transfer legislation the Legislature passed earlier that year.
“I believe that states have the right to their land,” he said. “We’ve been locked out of that land in many cases and it’s time that the federal government gives (it back).”
Concerning the pipeline, he said: “Our water supply is decreasing every day. If we don’t invest in water infrastructure (for) our community, we will shortchange generations to come.”
Running against Ipson are Democratic candidate Cheryl Hawker and Independent American candidate Nihla Judd. The general election is Nov. 4.

While I can’t agree with everything that Ipson has supported, I can tell you that he is one local businessman who has given a great deal back to his community. Just notice how many times you see him donate the use of his company’s trailers to support local causes and organizations. As well as his own time and money.
I agree completely that Ipson is a great man and a great community member. But as a politician he just goes along with the republican party, and look where that has gotten us. I support conservative principles, not the RINO party, which is why I’m voting for Nihla Judd. Make an informed vote, based on principles, according to your conscience. Such a vote is never, ever wasted.
